So, I wrote a comic for Big Dog Ink. How cool is that?
In short: Electric Youth is a young superhero with a devil-may-care attitude and the rugged good looks of a Ryan-Gosling-type-guy. Nothing is off limits for the dude–he can do anything he wants, with whomever he wants, wherever he wants, whenever he wants…but he can’t outrun the consequences of his actions…
I’m super stoked. It’s the first time I’ve ever written for someone else’s characters, in someone’s else’s universe.
A big thanks go out to Tom Hutchison at Big Dog Ink for givin’ me the gig. If you’re not reading The Legend of Oz: Wicked West and Critter, then we’re no longer friends.
Also: It’s drawn by Rene Michiletti (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, Gladiator vs. Supreme). That man is legendary. It’s an honor to have my name printed next to his.
Here’s the official solicitation:
Electric Youth Special

Art By: Rene Michiletti, Rob Hawkins
Cover By: Rene Michiletti.
Order Code: SEP120873
Description: Electric Youth is the fastest man on Earth, but even he can be caught in the time/space web that Paradox is weaving across the universe. This hot headed hero is about to get an education in the ways of the world by a man who claims to know how everyone’s story ends.
28 pages, $3.50.
Today I read this comic book, and it was a very enjoyable read. Generally speaking I don’t like the cliché the story was built on (time travel), but in this case I loved how it was used.
I also like the fact that Electric Youth needs a mentor to understand how to behave and do the right thing. This detail made him imperfect, and therefore more human and relatable. He’s not a Superman like Clark Kent, he’s a young boy who commits mistakes, and needs to be supported by someone else to avoid a dangerous path.
I hope to read more stories of this character in the following month, because I think he has a great potential.
